The Neighbourhood: Selected Works

2017 - 2021 (2021)

This exhibition was shown within the framework of an artist residency at the Dunedin School of Art. Twenty-two works from the series titled "The Neighbourhood" could be seen in this solo show. In a certain sense, the occasion of this exhibit marked a turning-point for this larger series of work. Held in late April of 2021, the thirty-seven works that now make up "The Neighbourhood" were at a point of being more or less complete. Added to this, many of the themes and sub-themes contained within this series of work were put forward in the context of this show. These themes include territory, family, enclosure and escape, a city's legacy of colonial expansion, and borders, and boundaries, and non-human coinhabitants, along with armament and the threat of imminent invasion.
